Lancing Rangers FC

Five a Side Tournament

Upper Beeding Football Club

Under 8's

Match Day Report

Dear Parents & Footballers,

Who was it that once said football was a funny old game? Well it wasn't funny at all when UBFC Under 8's continued their triumphant winning streak through this years six a side tournaments.

With only conceding two goals all day the UBFC Under 8's team became Group A league champions at Lancing Rangers Five a side tournament held at Boundstone Community School, Lancing. (17/06/00)

What really made the day special was when George and myself were accosted by two gentlemen from Charlton Athletic Football Club who had been watching the boys play. It materialised that they were youth scouts setting up a development centre in Lewes.

They have asked both George and myself whether we would be interested in taking some of the UBFC Under 8's down for a trial session on Friday 18th August 2000 at Eastbourne. As we understand it they have 18 vacancies in our particular age group. To be selected the boys will have to demonstrate that they are at least at level 3 in the Soccer Star Scheme (six being the highest)

Charlton Athletic will be writing to the boys that they have selected. We both agree, however, this is an opportunity not to be turned down and will provide valuable experience for the boys. George will be in touch as more details emerge.

One thing I would like to extend to you all, was that Lee Nolan said how impressed he was at the standard our boys had achieved and more importantly how they seemed to be enjoying it all. Lets not forget it is all done for fun and enjoyment.

George and Mark would like to thank all the parents for their support, it means a lot to the boys and both sets of the management team.

There will be no training at all until we meet again on Saturday 8th July for our home six a side tournament. Now for the plea for volunteers, we are looking for parents to help out on the several fund raising stalls that the club has set-up. They range from helping a couple of hours on the Tea/Coffee stall through to the Tombola/Sweets and crisps. Please if anyone can help let George or Mark know asap.

Would players please be at the Sports field by 09.30am on Saturday July 8th, we will congregate at the top end of the field by the band stand shelter. Please confirm your availability asap
