March 25th 2000
Upper Beeding 1-4 Midurst & Easebourne Utd

The first action occurred in the 11th minute when, despite the efforts of Jamie Ireson and Paul Barker, Martin George was allowed a shot at Scott Redfern which the Beeding keeper saved low at his left hand post. It was Beeding who opened the scoring a minute later. Ollie Trower won the ball on the left and found Lee Johnson whose through ball split the Midhurst back line for Stuart Barry to chip the advancing Rob Collins.

28 minutes into the game Midhurst levelled when George caught a bouncing ball and finished easily from 8 yards.

Beeding lost Ireson on the half hour with a groin strain, replaced by Darren Jordan, and Midhurst lost their trainer, dismissed by the referee for dissent at around the same time.

Six minutes later the visitors were ahead. Barber gave away a free kick 25 yards out on the right. The deep cross was cleared by Mark Salter, but only to the unmarked George who beat Redfern easily.

Nine minutes after the interval Beeding were further behind when George again found himself free in the Beeding penalty area to complete his hat trick.

The afternoon was summed up when Barber was dispossessed by Micky Steel on the edge of his own goal area to score Midhurst 4th.

Johnson upended Scott May for a Midhurst penalty on 75 minutes but Redfern through himself to his left to save Mark Osbourne's spot kick.

Manager Mick Barry was extremely disappointed after the match, "after making so much progress over the last two or three months, the standard set today was quite unacceptable".
