There were four goals from Gary Salter as Beeding blized six second half goals pass a shell shocked South Bersted at the Memorial Field on Saturday.
As early as the 5th minute John Burgess found Gary Salter on the left,
but his cross was headed over by Dave Smith from only 6 yards. It was to
be one of those afternoons for Smith.
2 minutes later Steve Barbers weak defensive header allowed John Edwards
to pot a shot from 20 yds which dave Kennett, in for the unavailable Scott
Redfern, did well to tip over.
Although Beeding were not playing well, chances came and went for Smith,
Lee Strange Gary Salter and Paul Barker.
On 20 mins the inevitable sucker punch was duly landed by Bersted.
A harmless looking through ball was totally misjudged by Kennett and Nathan
Quinell was on hand to tap the ball into the empty net.
Strange managed to hit the side netting from a difficult angle
before Beeding lost skipper John Burgess with a knee injury on 30 minutes,
to be replaced by Darren Jordan.
South Bersted nearly extended their lead 5 minutes from the interval
when a slip by Vic Gretton let in Edwards, his shot was saved by Kennett's
legs Malcolm Green then shot over from 10 yds.
Two minutes following the start of the second half and Mick Barry's
rhetoric Beeding were nearly level. When Smith 2 yds out fell over the
ball allowing the Bersted defence to clear.
Ninety seconds later is was 1-1. Barkers free kick on the right was
delivered with the deftest of touches, deceiving the Bersted back line
and letting Steve Barber in to steal an equaliser with his chest
at the far post.
Beeding were starting to look too good for the visitors when Mark Salter
skipped past two defenders to cross for his brother Gary Salter to
volley home on 60 mins.
This was the start of a 10 min spell when Beeding were to find
the net 5 times. The 3rd came on 62 mins. Barber again found Lee Strange
through the middle and the strikers pace took him away from the defender
and around the Bersted keeper to finish easily.
The 4th followed a foul on Strange, Nark Salters' deep free kick
was met perfectly by the head of Gary Salter past the Bersted keeper.
Within a minute it was five, Kennetts long kick was flicked on by a
Bersted defender for for Gary Salter to slip neatly under the Bersted
keeper for his hat trick.
70 mins was gone when Vic Gretton played a ball high through the left
channel were a Bersted defender headed the ball across his own penalty
area to Gary Salter, Salter then fired an unstoppable volley from
20 yds.
South Bersted pulled a goal back when awarded a penalty with 7 minutes
remaining, Miles blasting the spot kick past Kennett.
