LINGFIELD. 2-4 UPPER BEEDING

Upper Beeding completed a league double over Lingfield on Saturday thanks to
two late goals by striker Lee Strange.

Lingfield were unlucky not to go in front after two minutes when Dan Celani
was adjudged to have pushed Glyn Edmonds when heading Roger Gualtieris’ far
post cross past Scott Redfern.

Beeding welcomed back striker Mat Doo after a lengthy absence due to a foot
injury and Doo tested Lingfield custodian John Hardy with a curling shot,
after 12 minutes, which Hardy held acrobatically.

Lingfield took the lead after twenty five minutes when Gualtieri ran
unmarked onto Tim Matsons’ through ball and slotted clinically past Redfern
and the flailing leg of Jamie Ireson..

The strike was really against the run of play and Beeding could have been
back on terms within two minutes after Doo deceived Luke Stevens and put in
a cross which David Smith should have converted from 6 yards.

Smiths’ running from midfield was causing the home side problems and, as in
previous weeks, he came in for some rough treatment.

Beeding did lwevel on thirty seven minutes. Doos’ flying header from Edmonds
free kick giving Hardy no chance.

Edmonds held his head in his hands just before the interval as his first
time shot hit the side netting from close range after good work from
Strange.

The second period started poorly with neither side looking like adding to
their respective totals. That was until Redfern managed to let Gaultieris’
sixty first minute free kick squirm under his body and over the line to put
relegation threatened Lingfield back into the lead.

Edmonds brought the best out of Hardy with a first time effort that the
keeper somehow tipped over, but his efforts proved to be in vain as Gary
Beals resultant corner was hammered home from a couple of yards by Ireson.

The goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Lingfield who seemed more intent
on verbal abuse of their visitors than trying to restore what would have
been a valuable lead.

As it turned out it was Strange, perhaps the most sinned against, who took
final retribution. Firstly, with seven minutes left, Smith managed to turn
the Lingfield back four around but their pace was no match for Beedings’
fitness instructor, who drew Hardy before slipping the ball into an empty
net.

As the game moved into stoppage time, Beal repeated the delivery and Strange
took his time, before delightfully chipping the advancing Hardy from the
edge of the box.
