Beeding started slowly and sloppy passing denied them
possession time and
again during fairly equal opening exchanges. But perseverance
was the key
and Beeding took the lead after 19 minutes.
David Smith stroked the ball wide to Mark Salter on the
left. The make -
shift striker sailed past Adie Rowe and delivered a teasing
cross that Mark
Charman in the Hurstpierpoint goal could only half palm
away towards the far
post where Stuart Barry was waiting to volley home his
fourth goal of the
season from a couple of yards.
Paul Barker might have made it 2-0, two minutes later,
when skipper Mark
Friend - James took a quick free kick on half way and
Barker unleashed a
forty yard thunderbolt which almost dipped under Charmans'
crossbar.
Beeding became stronger as the half progressed and Smith,
Barry and Mark
Salter all had opportunities to extend the home sides
lead.
Beeding Manager Mick Barry was forced to replace his son,
Stuart, with Glyn
Edmonds during the interval after the mid fielder had
collided heavily with
a crowd barrier just before the break.
The adjustment counted for little as the Salter brothers
combined within a
minute of the re start with Gary casually slipping his
eighteenth goal of
the season past Charman.
Beeding had their tails high and Hurstpierpoint struggled
to stay with a
side which was beginning to play some of their best football
of the year.
It came as no surprise, therefore, when the home side
extended their lead
ten minutes into the half. Mark Salters' corner was headed
into Charmans'
arms by brother Gary, but the goal keeper inexplicably
dropped the ball and
Mat Doo was on hand to curl his shot around two defenders
into the far
corner.
Edmonds was a revolution as he popped up on either flank
teasing and
tantalising both Rowe and Stu Kempton with quickness
of both feet and mind.
Barkers' work rate was complemented by the clever running
of Smith and Simon
Friend - James and Jamie Ireson grew in stature on his
preferred right hand
side of a comfortable looking defence.
Both Smith and Mark Salter dragged shots just wide of
Charmans' goal and
then the ever skilful Smith shot straight at Charman
after bemusing both Tim
Stevens and Si Tenant with close control inside the area.
Gary Salter made it 4-0 after seventy four minutes. Barker
spread the ball
wide to Mark Salter on the left, who cut in and drew
Charman before squaring
the ball for Gary to glide the ball into the empty net.
Barry immediately replaced the Salter brothers with Lee
Strange and Joe
Bennett and Beeding could have run up a cricket score
with both Strange and
Bennett going close and Hurstpierpoint chasing shadows.
Manager Barry and coaches Buzz Russell and Vic Gretton
expect to add to the
signing of former Aylesbury mid fielder Joe Swanson early
in the new year.
