Sidley United Res 4:0 Upper Beeding
(H-T: 4-0)
Mick Barrys' Upper Beeding plumbed new depths at Sidley on Saturday
with
what their Manager described as "The worst first half display I have
ever
seen".
He was not wrong. Beedings' day started badly when Paul Barker was ruled
out
after pulling a calf muscle during the warm up.
The defence has been giving away goals for weeks now but the way Ian
Smith
skipped past Stuart Barry, in the opening five minutes and crossed,
diagonally, for the unmarked Mark Freeman to beat Scott Redfern from
six
yards was almost laughable.
Redfern turned over Mark Funnels' thirty yard drive two minutes later
but
could do little to stop Freemans' second after just ten minutes.
Terry Gretton gave away a free kick twenty five yards out which was
quickly
taken by Mark Lynch. Freeman again had acres of space and time to beat
Redfern.
The third goal, and Freemans' hat trick, duly arrived after just fourteen
minutes. Gary Salters' headed back pass eluded Redfern and Freeman
stabbed
the ball into an unguarded net.
Mark Salter did force John Gardiner into a finger tip save after thirty
minutes but five minutes later Funnel wandered in from the Sidley left
and
crossed for the unattended Lynch to score with a crisp eight yard volley.
In fairness Beeding were more competitive after the interval, despite
losing
Joe Bennett just before the break (ankle) and Barry being less than
100%
with a stretched hamstring.
Ian Barber hit a post and had one cleared off the line from Mark Friend
-
James's' corner but, in truth, Sidley never really looked in danger
of
losing the advantage they had taken before half time.
