Upper Beeding 2:3 TSC
(H-T: 1-1)
In just three second half minutes Mick Barrys' kamikaze
defence sentenced
Upper Beeding to their second consecutive County League
defeat on Saturday,
this time at the hands of TSC from Crawley.
The match was only six minutes old when Terry Grettons'
aberration in
challenging his defensive partner, Steve Barber, for
a run of the mill
header let in Gareth Neathey to smash the loose ball
past Scott Redfern For
the first of his three goals of the afternoon.
It could have been worse after 17 minutes when Chris Brewster
put Neathey
through, but this time the lively striker dragged his
shot wide.
Beeding were sorely missing both John Burgess (knee) and
Simon Friend -
James (holiday) in the centre of their mid field as TSC
had the majority of
the possession and chances in the opening exchanges.
Beedings' Ian Barber should have done better when let
in by a sloppy Andy
Grace back pass but although he rounded Martin Brown
easily enough, his
finish hit the side netting.
Beeding did level after 25 minutes, totally against the
run of play. Mark
Salters' through ball split the TSC defence and Lee Strange
raced trough to
delightfully chip Brown.
Neathey had a chance to put TSC back in front after 33
minutes but dragged
his shot wide and Beeding were fortunate indeed when
Charlie Coopers rasping
drive was deflected wide just before the break.
All Beeding could find to respond was a 30 yard cross
shot from Ian Barber
which bounced on the top of Browns' crossbar.
Beeding did look 100% better after the interval with Ian
Barber hitting a
post after being set up by Strange, Steve Barber seeing
his header, from
Mark Salters' free kick, saved by Brown and Ian Barber
missing badly when
put through by Paul Barker.
Barker himself saw Brown athletically push away his 20
yarder before the
wheels well and truly came off for the home side.
James Grants' hopeful through ball caught Terry Gretton
static and vainly
appealing for an off side flag which was never coming.
Neathey was through
one on one with Redfern and Neathey was more than equal
to the task.
Three minutes later Grant again played the ball through
on Beedings' right
flank. This time the disappointing Glyn Edmonds was caught
hopelessly out of
position and Neathey completed his hat trick, beating
Redfern from close
range.
Barry substituted both Gretton and Edmonds throwing on
his son Stuart and
Justin Tarrant as he switched to a 4-3-3 formation. Perhaps
it was too
little too late but Beeding did look more secure and
when Brown fumbled
after 84 minutes Ian Barber was on hand to reduce the
arrears.
