Dear Parents & Footballers,

Chesworth Rovers (A) 0 – Upper Beeding (A) 2

'Happy New Year to one and all'

Well, the first game for 2001 and I think we all had a bit too much turkey and Christmas pudding during the break. It wasn't until the 13th minute in the first half before the first goal was scored, which was off a Chesworth Rovers defender from a David Gardiner shot.

The second half came a bit easier for the boys as Chesworth Rovers started to get tired and David Gardiner scored his second, but we never seemed to get it together as a team.

For the statisticians amongst us that is 16 months without a defeat. That's only 8 months left before we can say that we have been at the top for 2 years.

A good game to watch, but it would have been even better if the grass had been cut and rolled before we had played.

Well done to the 'B team' who also had a good game but unfortunately lost. Chesworth Rovers (B) 4 – Upper Beeding (B) 1

Man of the match went to John Gretton for braving the elements with a cold and providing a solid defence.

Next week it's Broadbridge Heath's turn to get a pasting, hopefully at home weather permitting, so to that end will all players meet at the park at 0915. Please confirm with Mark or George by Friday evening.

Finally a plea to parents. When we ask you to confirm your child's availability before a game, PLEASE give Mark or George a call as we need to arrange transport if we are playing away, and let the opposition know how many teams we can bring. Thank you
