West Sussex Football League
Division Four (Central)
Upper Beeding Res 5:2 West Chiltington
Whatever their seniors can do, Steph Grettons' young Beeding Reserves seem
capable of emulating as they leap frogged West Chiltington with a 5-2 home
victory which leaves them needing just two points from their final two games
to add the Division Four (Central) Championship to The Premier title won by
the Club last week.
Beeding exploded out of the blocks and were ahead on two minutes when Jamie
Toombes shot was only parried and Sam Witherden was on hand to bury the ball
into the bottom corner of the net.
Five minutes later it was 2-0. Darren Jordan found Joe Bennett on the left.
The pacey striker cut into the edge of the box and an exquisite chip left
the Chiltington 'keeper Wes Campbell flat footed.
The tenacious Bennett was on hand again after sixteen minutes to execute the
blow from which the then league leaders would not recover.
Adrian "Percy" Parsons' long clearance deceived the hapless Campbell leaving
Bennett to stroke the ball into an empty net.
Beeding lost Toombes after 40 minutes with a ham string injury, replacing
him with the experienced Jay Fricker.
West Chiltington had the opportunity to pull a goal back after 42 minutes
when Jordan was adjudged the culprit. Parsons' flying save to his right
ensured Beedings' three goal cushion at the interval.
Ten minutes into the second period Beeding lost Witherden with ankle
ligament damage, to be replaced by former Manager Gary Oxley.
On sixty six minutes it was 4-0. Lance Trigwell, through on goal was upended
by a clumsy challenge by Campbell. The ball broke to Bennett who coolly
completed his hat trick.
West Chiltington rallied and reduced the arrears after seventy five minutes
with a powerful Paul Benham header which gave Parsons no chance.
Two minutes from time Trigwell gave West Chiltington hope, bringing down an
attacker in the box. Same penalty taker, same goalkeeper, same side, same
result. The magnificent Percy Parsons produced a carbon copy of his first
half penalty stop to break Chiltington hearts.
But not for long. Within a minute it was 4-2. Jordans' misplaced back pass
intercepted and converted.
As the match headed deep into stoppage time, Bennett was on hand to blast
his fourth and his side's fifth of the afternoon.
