Upper Beeding Res 7:2 Billingshurst Res.
Saturday 17th March 2001
It should have been the Division 4 match of the day. Beeding
Res. in second
place with Billingshurst Res in third.
Billingshurst started the better as Steph Grettons' Beeding
side seemed to
have left their ability in the changing room.
Within fifteen minutes Beeding were 2-0 down due to some
sloppy defending
but that was their wake up call and some of their football
was lovely to
watch.
Chances fell to Sam Witherden and Joe Bennett but both
were sent high and
wide, adding to the grey hairs on the head of the new
Beeding Manager.
John Kingsley eventually took one of the chances that
Beeding were creating
and 90 seconds later it was two apiece as Bennett rammed
in his first of the
afternoon.
Matt Grays' corner was half cleared for Witherden
to return the ball into a
crowded area and Darren Jordan to bulldoze the ball home.
After the break it was one way traffic with Beeding running
riot and it came
as no surprise when Gray made it 4-2.
Kingsley and Bennett were running the 'Hurst defence ragged
ably supported
by Witherden and Ollie Trower on the flanks and
Mid field General Lance
Trigwell.
As Bennett made it 5-2, Gretton replaced young mid
fielder Aaron Barker
with Jay "a few pounds heavier Fricker" for his first
outing of the season
and it was his slick passing which added to Billingshursts'
problems turning
their back line at will.
Bennett completed his hat trick and added his forth before
the end but, in
truth, it could have been many more.
It was left to Manager Gretton to comment "In the end
it was job done but
next time, hopefully, we will play for the full 90 minutes."
Gretton confirmed that he had signed his brother Terry from Steyning Town.
