Match Report from Nick Addison:
Sussex Intermediate Cup
1st Round

Peacehaven Res. 0-2 Upper Beeding
H-T: 0-1 Strange (14)
Barker (73)

Upper Beeding sailed through to the second round of the Sussex Intermediate
Cup with a comfortable win at Peacehaven.

Beeding started brightly and both Lee Strange and Matt Doo had reasonable
chances to open the scoring before, on the quarter hour mark, Strange
latched onto Sean Edwards' through ball and chipped the advancing Ray
Allison in the Peacehaven goal.

Peacehaven were nearly level within two minutes, when Edwards was adjudged
to have brought down Andy Cook and Beeding 'keeper Scott Redfern had to be
alert to deal with Paul Preece's swerving free kick.

Beeding lost wing back Lewis Partridge to a reoccurrence of a knee injury
after 23 minutes, bringing on Glyn Edmonds and Doo should have put Beeding
further ahead when his weak header from Strange's cross was easily saved by
Allison.

John Burgess had a dipping cross shot palmed away after 38 minutes and
Strange spurned another two good chances before the break.

Usually, the second period begins with Beeding asleep for the first ten
minutes. On Saturday, spectators were subjected to the opening twenty five
when they could not string two passes together. Peacehaven enjoyed the
better of this period with Danny Wood and Archie Mackerby enjoying much of
the possession without really threatening Redfern in the Beeding goal.

When Redfern was beaten by Cook, firing in Woods' corner after sixty six
minutes, Edmonds was on hand to clear the ball off his own goal line.

Gradually Beeding awoke and began to take control of the game again and went
further ahead after seventy three minutes.
Paul Barker's long ball down the left flank was retrieve by Strange, whose
deep cross was only palmed out to the edge of the penalty area by Allison.
Barkers' sweet volley into the bottom corner giving the stranded 'keeper no
chance.

Strange was replaced by Stuart Barry after seventy nine minutes and, if his
first touch had been better having been put clean through by Edwards, would
have immediately given the visitors a more comfortable cushion.

There was still time for Doo to miss another opportunity and Edwards to have
his name taken after a series of niggling fouls.

Manager Mick Barry was upbeat afterwards although a little concerned by his
side's lack of concentration. "Normally we have a kip up for a 10 minute
period some where during the ninety", he said "but today, we weren't at the
races for a full twenty five minutes. Sean Edwards, Vic Gretton and I will
go back and do some more hard work with the players during the week, and
hopefully I will have David Smith (groin) available for next week's sortie
to The Ship".
