Upper Beeding 7:0 Midhurst
Upper Beeding brought the curtain down on an exceptional season with
a seven
nil drubbing of fourth placed Midhurst on Monday afternoon, scoring
their
one hundredth goal, in all competitions, in the process.
Goalkeeper Scott Redfern set a new Upper Beeding record, conceding just
16
times in twenty two league appearances as the Premier Division Champions
secured their twenty fifth win in a row.
Gary Salters' through ball found Stuart Barry on fourteen minutes and
the
diminutive striker drew Alex Wadey before setting up strike partner
Lee
Strange for the easiest of chances.
Strange returned the compliment on thirty two minutes as he set up Barry
to
rifle home from the edge of the box.
Within four minutes, as Midhurst wilted, Mat Doo burst down the left
and
pulled the ball back for Strange to smash in his second.
Two minutes later and it was 4-0. Mark Salter fed David Smith forty
yards
out and the sparkling mid fielder did the rest, ghosting past three
challenges, around Wadey to stoke the ball into an empty net.
Wadey saved Midhurst from further first half punishment with superlative
saves from Doo and Strange.
After the break it was more of the same. Midhurst trying desperately
to stem
the onrushing Beeding tide of possession.
It was more than comfortable for Mick Barrys' boys as Glyn Edmonds set
Doo
away to square for Barry junior to pop in his second on sixty minutes
and
when Barry was hauled down by Wadey five minutes later, Gary "the Z
man"
Salter stepped forward to send the third goalkeeper in a row in the
opposite
direction to his spot kick.
It was unfortunate that Wadey, by far Midhurst most accomplished player,
was
at fault for Beedings seventh in the dying minutes.
Mark "Pumpkin" Salters' speculative ball through the middle was completely
missed by the Midhurst custodian and Doo was on hand to notch his fifteenth
of the season.
