RUSTINGTON 0:2
UPPER BEEDING
(H-T: 0-1)
Mick Barrys' Upper Beeding sit on the top of the West Sussex Football
League
Premier Division for the first time in their history after a clinical
2-0
win at reigning Champions Rustington on Saturday.
A large crowd had gathered to watch this top of the table clash
and it was
Beeding who got off the mark as early as the tenth minute when
Matt Doos'
inch perfect through ball allowed Stuart Barry to rifle his shot
past the
helpless Finch without breaking stride.
It could have been worse for the champions as first Lee Strange
and then Doo
struck the Rustington crossbar.
But as the half wore on Rustington came back into the game and their
neat
passing build up saw one chance squandered and another brilliantly
palmed
away but the athletic Scott Redfern in the Beeding goal.
Beeding lost goal scorer Barry with an ankle injury at the interval,
throwing on Wayne Potbury in attack.
The new half was only seven minutes old when Potbury was hauled
down just
outside the Rustington penalty area. Glyn Edmonds curling free
kick was too
hot for Finch to hold and Strange popped up to double Beedings'
advantage.
Rustington had no answer to the Beeding back three of Jamie Ireson,
Steve
Barber and Gary
Salter who were excellent at the heart of the Beeding defence.
Redfern was again called upon to make an excellent save from a free
kick
towards the end but with skipper John Burgess dominant in the centre
of the
park, Rustington failed to make any real impression.
